The community of Shawnessy is located south of Fish Creek. Development began in 1981, primarily in the form of single family housing. The east edge of the community includes Shawnessy Town Centre, a major regional shopping destination. The community is well-served by the Shawnessy LRT station, and Macleod Trail provides direct access to downtown or a quick way out of town! Shawnessy is named after British settler Samuel Shaw, who built a log house near Fish Creek in 1882. This history lives on through the almost 100 year-old barn that is now home to the Shawnessy Community Association.
There's plenty of shopping and entertainment at the Shawnessy Towne Centre. Transportation is a breeze with the Shawnessy LRT station and easy access to Macleod Trail, which can take you downtown - or out of town. Samuel Shaw, a British Settler, built a barn in 1882, that is now the home of the community association. Enjoy the surrounding nature in Fish Creek Park and along the many pathways it provides. There is also a man-made lake with a beach in the park called Sicome Lake, which is a short drive. Golf is available at the Shawnee Slopes.
Are you looking for your first home? Or are you a growing family looking for more space? Great communities provide choice – not only in home size and style, but in amenities and recreation. Shawnessy’s proximity to retail shopping and transportation means your new home extends well beyond your front door.
