Shawnessy is an established south Calgary community located just south of Fish Creek Provincial Park. Developed primarily in the early 1980s, it’s best known for two things: exceptional convenience (major shopping and services close by) and excellent transit access via the CTrain, with Macleod Trail providing a direct route downtown or out of the city.

Shawnessy is named after Samuel Shaw, a British settler who built a log house near Fish Creek in the 1880s. The neighbourhood’s heritage feel is reinforced by the historic community barn venue (built in 1915 and later renovated as a community centre), which remains a recognizable local landmark and event space.

School boundaries and program availability (including French programming) depend on the specific property address, so it’s important to confirm school designation during your home search.
